The Spiritual Path Of The Caregiver

For many of us who are in the role of caregiver the question can come to mind why? Why am I burdened with this role? What is the lesson I must learn? Is it some kind of karmic debt i have to this person?

Lets attempt to look at this.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

When we step into the role of caregiver and more so if it is a non aging relative child or friend it can put one on  a search to understand what had happened to my partner, child or friend and what  is my place was in all this. Why am I now a caregiver? You hope to find a way to help  heal, as traditional medicine is not working and no doctors had been able to help. You feel  there is much more to all this than meets the eye.

You may be on a spiritual path and are  approaching  the time of moving on to more advanced  learning and commitment.  For me it was Easter Sunday as I ended the last lesson in a Basic Instruction. I reached out for a deeper meaning of care giving according to Christ. What I was given I am sharing with you.  There appears to be no greater example of the role of caregiver than that of Christ Himself. His ministry saw the healing of the diseased and the restoration of the broken.

He spoke not with the powerful, but with the weak. He felt compassion when he could have expressed condemnation, and He showed mercy when He could – rightly, it seems to me – have expressed judgment. He demonstrated to His disciples the importance of having a servant’s heart. No one has greater love than the one who gives his life for his friends, He told us.

You as a  caregiver sacrifice your  time, energy, and love every day. This is certainly an attribute of Christ. His mercy and compassion are all critical to caregiving. While we can never measure up to His example perfectly, we should always remember that caregivers aren’t just doing good work, they are doing God’s work, exemplified in Christ.

Perhaps this is my answer, arriving at such a meaningful time. Isn’t it interesting how things fall into place? Have I found my answer just in time to move on to my next step in fulfilling my purpose here on earth? Is this part of the testing we are told the Masters provide for us to help measure our progress? Is it part of the lesson or a milestone on my search that began  and culminates in a new beginning ?

The role of care giving can be a heavy burden to carry. We must make all the right decisions. Yet, with each burden there is help and we must only reach out to get that help or answer. My healing energy and blessing goes to all care givers. Know you are blessed for what you are being asked to do whether it to be big or small and perhaps you are being trained for the bigger purpose of being an angelic caregiver for humanity someday.
